{ Punta San Vigilio }

La piccola baia delle sirene, lo scoglio prospiciente il porticciolo fatto a conchiglia, la Villa, la locanda, la chiesetta, lo scenario di fondo offerto dalla natura completano il promontorio di San Vigilio, angolo tra i più suggestivi del Garda, dove il possente Monte Baldo, alla presenza del lago, addolcisce le sue asprezze e si ammanta di verde.
Il santo che viene ricordato da questo angolo di sogno è appunto San Vigilio che fu Vescovo di Trento. Egli visse nel IV secolo, prima a Roma, dove era nato, poi a Trento dove fu condotto insieme ai fratelli Claudiano e Magoriano dalla madre Massenza. Fu là che tra pochi cristiani che formavano la chiesa trentina, Vigilio emerse per fervore di fede. Così che morto il Vescovo Abbondanzio, fu destinato a sostituirlo. Allora, aiutato da tre emigrati d'oriente, Martirio, Sissino e Alessandro, cominciò nel Trentino la sua predicazione. Ma i pagani della Val di Non uccisero i suoi tre compagni. A tale notizia, Vigilio, raccolte le reliquie dei martiri, dopo averle mandate a Simpliciano Vescovo di Milano, si recò in Val Rendena e con l’aiuto di alcuni fedeli abbattè e gettò nel fiume Sarca una statua di Saturno, salendo quindi sul vuoto piedistallo per parlare alla gente. Ma i montanari lo assaltarono e lo lapidarono. Allora i popolani del territorio bresciano corsero armati per ottenere dai Trentini il corpo del Vescovo e non ebbero che un vaso del sangue del martire che riportarono in patria.
La penisola, che si trova nel comune di Garda, è considerata dai conoscitori del lago un chilometro di incantevole bellezza naturale e segna convenzionalmente la separazione tra l'alto e il basso lago.


Die kleine Bucht der Sirenen, die hervorstehende Klippe, das Häfchen mit seinen Muscheln, die Villa, das Gasthaus und das Kirchlein bilden zusammen ein wirklich einmaliges Szenario. Dieses Fleckchen Erde ist wohl einer der bezauberndsten Orte, die man am Gardasee finden kann. Die raue Beschaffenheit des Monte Baldos im Hintergrund steht stark im Gegensatz zu diesem romantischen Ort. Dem San Vigilio, Bischof aus Trento, ist dieser Ort gewidmet. Er lebte im 9. Jh. und wurde, nachdem er in Rom geboren war und hier seine ersten Lebensjahre verbrachte, von seiner Mutter zusammen mit seinen Brüdern in Trento aufgezogen. San Vigilio, welcher ein streng gläubiger Christ und Anhänger der trentinischen Kirche war, wurde nach dem Tode des Bischofs Abbondanzio zu seinem Nachfolger erklärt. Von den drei Emigranten Martirio, Sissimo und Allesandro aus dem Orient unterstützt, beginnt er nun hier mit seinen Predigten. Bald aber werden schon seine drei Getreuen von Heiden aus dem Val di Non getötet. Vigilio schickt daraufhin die Reliquien der Märtyrer zum Bischof Simpliciano nach Mailand und versucht sich selber im Val Rendena zu erholen. Hier erstellt er dann mit einigen Getreuen eine Statue des Saturn, welche auf einem Sockel im Fluss Sarca errichtet wird, und die Menschen an die Gräueltat erinnern soll. Die Bergleute aber greifen Vigilio an und steinigen ihn schließlich. Anschließend wird von den Einwohnern Brescias aber dafür gesorgt, dass der Leichnahm des Vigilios zurück zu seinem Geburtsort überführt wird.
Die wunderschöne Halbinsel, deren Geschichte der Namensgebung hier erwähnt wurde, ist der Gemeinde Garda zugehörig. Außerdem wird durch sie der See in seine südliche und nördliche Hälfte unterteilt.


St Vigilio’s point is known for its small mermaid bay, the shell-shaped port guarded by the protruding rock, the Villa, the guesthouse, the tiny church, and the beautiful natural background. It is one of the most charming corners of Lake Garda, where Monte Baldo gently slopes down and turns green.
This fascinating peninsula takes its name from St Vigilio, who was the Bishop of Trento. He lived during the 4th century, fist in Rome, where he was born, and then in Trento, where he moved to with his brothers Claudiano and Magoriano and his mother Massenza. Virgilio stood out among the few Christians who formed the Catholic Church in Trentino for his passionate faith. So much so that after Bishop Abbondazio died, he was chosen to take over. With the help of three Oriental emigrants, Martirio, Sissino and Alessandro, he started preaching all over Trentino. However, the Pagans from Val di Non killed his three companions. When Virgilio found out about this, he collected the remains of the martyrs, sent them to Milan’s Archbishop, Simpliciano, and went to the Rendena Valley, and with the help of some believers he tore down a statue depicting Saturn, and threw it into the river Sarca. He then proceeded to step on the stand where the statue rested and started preaching to the people. The inhabitants of the mountains assaulted and stoned him. It was then that the people of the Brescia territories came armed to defend the body of the Bishop from the Trentino people, however all that was left for them was a glass of the martyr’s blood which they took back to their homeland.
The peninsula, which is located within the Garda Township, is considered a kilometer of enchanting natural beauty by the Lake Garda connoisseurs and it traditionally marks the border between the North and the South of the lake.
